The Nordic Moons

In the fall of 2014 I embarked on a six-week solo photography trek to some of the most remote islands in the Arctic and North Atlantic — the Lofoten Islands, Svalbard, the Faroe Islands and Iceland. As a daily reminder of my appreciation for my wife’s not only tolerating – but encouraging – my excursion, I posted a daily image of the moon that shone over both of us, continents apart, for her on facebook. A seemingly realistic photo series consumed by low orbits, tall mountains, ice storms and encroaching polar nights evolved into a full-time pursuit. Through the growing amount of online comments and discussions following my daily postings, my solo trek transformed into a far more fulfilling experience than I could have imagined – or thought possible. This resulting documentary traces the visual path between moons over spectacularly unique landscapes and how that path steered my own.
